And that’s a wrap! I can hardly believe the 2024 Year of Sewing BOM has come to an end. It has been such a joy designing these blocks for you each month and watching your creations come to life.
Every year, I host a fun, themed Block of the Month (BOM), and 2024 was no exception! One thing I love most about this BOM is that is a mystery. You have no idea what the blocks will looks like. That just adds to the fun and excitement!
This year’s theme—sewing—celebrated our love for stitching with clever and adorable designs. Each month combined a sewing-related concept with a seasonal or monthly theme, creating blocks that were as fun as they were unique. We had everything from sewing machines to spools, scissors, rotary cutters, and more!

• February - Sew Lovable: A sewing machine with hearts
• March - Sew Charming: Lucky thimbles
• April - Sew Chirpy: A spool birdhouse
• May - Sew Sprouty: A flower pincushion
• June - Sew Sweet: A strawberry embroidery hoop
• July - Sew Starry: A star rotary cutter
• August - Sew Buttony: Sunflower buttons
• September - Sew Delicious: A ruler basket of apples
• October - Sew Franky: Frankenstein scissors in a jar
• November - Sew Pumpkin: A pumpkin needle and thread
• December - Sew Bundled: A fabric bundle wrapped like a present
Free Quilt Setting
Each year, I design a special quilt setting to transform the BOM blocks into something truly beautiful, and this year’s design is no exception! The 2024 Year of Sewing quilt setting features a traditional layout with sashing that mimics stitching, adding the perfect touch of charm.
The sashing comes together quickly with strip piecing, making it a great way to use up leftover scraps from your blocks. Frame your quilt with your favorite border fabric, and you’ll have a masterpiece you can enjoy all year long!

This setting uses 14” finished blocks, so even if you didn’t participate in the 2024 BOM, you can still use this setting with any of your favorite 14” finished blocks. I just swapped out the BOM blocks for a traditional star block and recolored the quilt in red and green and now I have a beautiful Christmas quilt idea. See the star block measurements below:
Backing Block Pattern
I’m so excited to share the 2024 Year of Sewing Backing Block and Backing Pattern, now available in my shop. Adding the year to the back of your quilt is such a meaningful touch, and this year’s design features a “0” with a charming flower button! It’s the perfect way to remember when you created your quilt.
The pattern includes full cutting and piecing instructions for both the block and backing, plus fun color options if you’d like to use a white background. I plan to make mine with a white back, using a different color for each number to use up some scraps! See below! You can really have fun with your backing.
New this year: The pattern also includes measurements to create blocks for 2025, 2026, and 2027, making it versatile for future quilts.
If you don’t wish to purchase the backing block pattern, you’ll need 6 yards of backing fabric for your quilt.
