Are you ready for a fun, themed BOM? I know I am! I’ve been so excited to share this one with you, and the wait is finally over.
Now Introducing the 2025 Year of Sewing Machines BOM—a quilt that celebrates our love for sewing machines with blocks that are SEW adorable and fun to make!
This BOM kicks off January 1st and runs all year long. Get ready to be inspired each month with unique sewing machine blocks paired with 6” themed blocks AND 6” star bonus blocks! This is perfect for those not interested in a monthly themed quilt!

Theme
This year’s theme is all about sewing machines! Each month, you’ll make a different sewing machine block - no two are alike, sitting on a scalloped shelf, paired with a 6” themed block to match the season or holiday and 6" star bonus block if you would like to make your quilt using all 6" star blocks.
Note: Monthly themes are based on American holidays and seasons (e.g., Winter, Valentine’s Day, 4th of July, Fall, Christmas). Refunds will not be provided if themes don’t align with personal preferences. The bonus star block will be included in the release of each month. If you prefer to make your quilt not using the monthly themed 6” blocks, create a beautiful quilt using the 6” star bonus blocks.
Quilt Details
Size: 74.5” x 81”
Block Size: 16.5” x 16.5” unfinished with a 6.5” unfinished themed block or bonus star block.
All traditonally machined pieced
Smallest Piece: The needle unit (0.75” unfinished)—can be pieced, appliquéd, or hand-embroidered if you prefer.

Prefer to keep things simple? No problem! I’ll also include a simpler setting option without these extras.
Finishing Pattern
New this year—you’ll get to preview the finishing layout upfront! I've never done that before! You'll get both!
1. Finishing Option 1:
• Includes detailed sashing and fun, sewing-themed extras like pincushions and jars, mentioned above. Perfect for those who love adding detail!
2. Finishing Option 2:
• Features a simpler layout with plain sashing—great for beginners or anyone wanting a quicker finish.
Fabric Requirements
This BOM is a stash buster! It’s perfect for using up scraps or fat quarter bundles with a wide variety of colors.

Each sewing machine block will feature a main print for the body of the machine, complemented by accent prints for the spool and other sewing machine components. This allows you to mix and match fabrics, making each block unique and adding a fun, scrappy vibe to your quilt! ✂️🧵
My Plan for this BOM:
I’m so excited to dive into this BOM and wanted to share my plans for how I’ll be making my quilts!
Blocks: For my first version - yep, first version, I’ll be using fabrics from my stash to create the entire quilt with the monthly themed blocks. I pulled fabrics that act more like solids. Tone on tone prints that have small details work great. Each month my sewing machine will be colored for that month. Example, my January machine will feature blues. I pulled a variety of blues, reds, greens, yellows, pinks, oranges, and greys.
Shelf Print: I am using a solid brown for my shelves in each block. This will allow my sewing machine and monthly 6" blocks a chance to shine. The print I'm using is called Bella Solids Paper Bag. The SKU # for this is 9900-40. Click the link below if you would like to purchase this for your shelves.
Background: I'll be using the Linen Cupboard - white on white (it has little scissors on it, see picture below) by Fig Tree for my background. It goes with the theme so well! This collection is mostly sold out in stores, but I was able to find some available. Click the link below if you would like to purchase this for your background.
Second Quilt: I also have a second version in mind! I’m planning to make another quilt using my next fabric collection, which debuts February 28, 2025. For this version, I’ll keep things a little more flexible—I’m thinking about making 9 sewing machine blocks and pairing them with bonus star blocks instead of the monthly themed 6” blocks for a more timeless look. And because I can’t resist adding extra projects, I might even make a few more blocks and turn them into pillows to match the quilt!

General Questions
1. What is a BOM (Block of the Month)?
A BOM is a monthly quilt-along program where participants receive instructions for one quilt block each month. By the end of the program, you’ll have all the blocks needed to complete a full quilt!
2. How does this BOM work?
Each month, you’ll receive a new block pattern that’s available to download from the Main Hub (for bundle purchasers) or for individual purchase in my shop. At the end of the year, you’ll also receive finishing instructions to assemble the quilt.
3. What skill level is this BOM designed for?
This BOM is beginner-friendly, with a mix of larger pieces and a few smaller, detailed sections. Detailed instructions are included, and optional embroidery or appliqué techniques can be substituted for smaller pieces if desired.
4. Can I use my own 6” blocks instead of the themed ones?
Absolutely! This BOM is designed to be customizable. You can swap out the 6” themed blocks with the 6” bonus star blocs or any 6” finished blocks of your choice to create a more timeless or personal design.

5. What’s the difference between the Preorder Bundle and Monthly Purchase options?
• Preorder Bundle: Pay upfront for the entire BOM and save 25% from January 1 - 10, 2025! Includes exclusive access to the Main Hub, where you can download blocks anytime, plus free finishing and backing block patterns. If you preorder the bundle after 1/10/25 it will only be 15% off.
• Monthly Purchase: Buy each block individually as it’s released. This option does not include Main Hub access, and blocks must be downloaded when purchased. This option is more expensive
6. If I preorder the bundle, will I get all the blocks at once?
No, blocks are released monthly according to the schedule listed in the post. The January block will be available January 1st at 9 AM EST, and subsequent blocks will be released on the dates provided.
7. Can I switch from the monthly purchase option to the bundle later?
Unfortunately, no. The preorder bundle is only available at the discounted price until January 10, 2025. After that, it will return to full price, and blocks will only be available for monthly purchase.
8. Are refunds available?
No. Due to the digital nature of this BOM, there are no refunds once your purchase is complete. Please review the details carefully before purchasing.
Accessing Blocks & Downloads
9. How do I access my blocks?
• Bundle Purchasers: Blocks will be available in the Main Hub on the release dates listed in the schedule. You’ll also receive an email reminder each month.
• Monthly Purchasers: Blocks will be emailed to the address you provide at checkout.
10. What if I don’t receive my monthly email?
If you don’t receive your email, check your spam or junk folder first. If you still can’t find it, please reach out to customerservice@mysewquiltylife.com so we can resend it to you.
11. Can I download the blocks more than once?
Yes! Bundle purchasers can download blocks from the Main Hub as many times as needed. For monthly purchasers, we recommend downloading and saving the files immediately after purchase.
Fabric & Supplies
12. What fabric do I need for this BOM?
This BOM is scrap-friendly! It’s great for stash busting or using fat quarters. If you’re using a fabric collection, you’ll need:
• 24–30 Fat Quarters for the blocks
• Additional fabric for background, sashing, and borders (see the fabric requirements chart for more details).
13. Will there be fabric kits available?
No, I won’t be offering fabric kits for this BOM. I’m using fabrics from my stash—primarily Moda Fabrics—but you’re welcome to use any collection or scraps you have on hand.
14. What if I run out of fabric during the BOM?
Since this is a stash-friendly project, you can mix and match fabrics from your collection. Feel free to swap colors or substitute prints to make it your own!
