Christmas at Granny's Mystery Quilt Along - Starting Soon!

Updated: Aug 4

Come join me for Christmas at Granny's and create a special Christmas granny square block each week with the Christmas at Granny’s Mystery Quilt Along and help make the Christmases of children in need magical.

The Granny square is a popular traditional quilt block that I have adored for many years. When designing my Cottage Charm fabric collection quilts, I took the traditional granny square quilt block and incorporated a heart on point in the middle to make it unique. The resulting quilt is called Granny’s Heart, and it is truly beautiful (see below).

*The Granny's Heart pattern will be available September 2024.

While sewing my Granny’s Heart quilt, I had the idea to create a Christmas version using Christmas trees instead of hearts. It wasn’t long after I began drafting the design that I knew I had to do something special and fun by incorporating several Christmas-themed blocks inside each of the granny square blocks. I am thrilled to introduce the Christmas at Granny’s Mystery QAL.

The 10-week Christmas at Granny’s Mystery QAL starts on August 19, 2024, and ends on October 28, 2024, just in time to complete your quilt for Christmas. It's been a few years since I have made a Christmas quilt, and I am so excited about this one. Each Monday, you will receive the block of the week directly to your email. But that's not all—you will also get a fun cookie recipe with every block. There’s nothing like making cookies with Granny! Snuggle up with the Christmas at Granny’s quilt and a warm plate of cookies. Don’t forget the milk!

Important Info:

This is a paid PDF pattern that will be released each week. This is not a free QAL. You must prepay for the entire QAL PDF bundle ahead of time with a one-time payment. This is a mystery QAL, and the only block revealed is the Week 1 block, Granny’s Tree. You will receive an email every Monday from August 19th through October 28th with the weekly block and cookie recipe. You will be given the granny square block pattern and info in Week 1 if you would like to cut out all your fabrics for your granny square blocks at the start. The full QAL pattern will be available after the QAL is over if you missed it. I’m keeping this QAL simple. There will be no video tutorials, lives, or bonus patterns with this QAL. This QAL is PDF only. No paper patterns are available.

Schedule:

The QAL starts on August 19th with pulling your fabrics. The blocks will start being emailed out on Monday, August 26th.

Giving Back:

At My Sew Quilty Life, our favorite thing to do is give back. We take our talents and offer you great products to help support charities and organizations, making a difference. Quilting has made a difference in my life in more ways than one, and I love using this community to help make a difference in others’ lives too. I am proud to announce that the Christmas at Granny’s QAL will help sponsor several children in need this holiday season so they can have a wonderful Christmas. A portion of all profits from the QAL will go toward buying Christmas presents for children to open on Christmas Day or other items they are in need of. Separately, our money can only go so far, but together our money can do great things. We have not yet nailed down exactly which charity we will be donating our proceeds/gifts to, but I will be sure to announce it once we have selected a charity or organization. Thank you so much for all your support and for helping make the Christmases of so many magical. You are the best!

Listing:

To sign up and preorder the Christmas at Granny’s QAL pattern bundle, click the button below. Preorders will close once the QAL begins.

The cost of each block and recipe is $3.50 + $8.50 for the setting.

How will blocks be delivered each week?

Once you have purchased the Christmas at Granny's QAL bundle, you will be added to a special email list just for this QAL. Each week of the QAL, you will receive an email on Monday with the weekly block pattern (or finishing pattern) and cookie recipe. It is important to ensure your email address is correct upon checkout. Upon checkout, you will receive a list of instructions to download from your order confirmation. If you did not get an order confirmation, please email customerservice@mysewquiltylife.com. On August 19th, you will receive your first “Welcome to the QAL” email. If you do not receive an email from me on August 19th, please email customerservice@mysewquiltylife.com. It is important that you receive your weekly emails with your blocks so you are not delayed.

Fabric Requirements:

You may use any fabrics you like for your quilt. I am using an assortment of green, red, and low volumes from my stash. Because these fabrics are from my stash, I do not have a fabric kit available. The fabrics I am using are from an assortment of past Moda fabric collections from Camille Roskelley, Corey Yoder, Lella Boutique, and Fig Tree. I am making my quilt have a scrappy feel. You will need a minimum of 9 red, 9 green, and 9 low-volume fat quarters. See the fabric requirements and a picture of my fabrics below. Feel free to change up the arrangement of your fabric placement or use other colors for your quilt. You may also need some scrap fabric of brown for the tree trunk. Post in the comments which fabrics you will be using!

Blocks:

Each week, you will be given a Christmas-themed block to sew into your granny square blocks. Each block is traditionally machine-pieced. No paper piecing or applique will be used in this quilt. The smallest unfinished piece in the blocks is 1” unfinished. Not all blocks have 1” unfinished pieces. The blocks are a mystery, and you will not know what the block looks like ahead of time, besides the Week 1 block, Granny’s Tree. See Week 1 block below:

Cookie Recipes:

Did I mention you will also be getting cookie recipes? I love a good warm and gooey cookie! What about you? I love making Christmas cookies, and I cannot wait to make them this Christmas. Each week (starting in Week 1), you will get a fun cookie recipe with every block pattern. These cookie recipes are traditional cookies we all love and have probably had before. I did not create these cookie recipes from scratch (I don’t bake much; I’m a better quilter). I hope you enjoy making the cookies as much as you do the blocks. What is your favorite cookie recipe?

My favorite cookie recipe is peanut butter blossom cookies. I love them so much, and they are so easy to make. The warm peanut butter taste with a Hershey’s Kiss melting on top is delicious! These cookies are the first to be demolished in my house.

Giveaways:

There will be a couple of fun giveaways during the last week of the QAL for those who participated. Be sure to share your blocks and quilts during the QAL and the final week using #christmasatgrannysQAL on social media.

This QAL is going to be so much fun! I sure hope you join me for Christmas at Granny’s!

Let everyone know you are quilting along with Christmas at Granny's QAL. Share the graphic below on your social media.

Happy Quilting,

Heather
