National Sew A Jelly Roll Day/Weekend QAL

Updated: Sep 15, 2022

National Sew A Jelly Roll Day is Saturday, September 17th but I just don't think one day is enough to celebrate, so I'm hosting Sew A Jelly Roll Weekend. Join me for a "Jelly-Filled" weekend from September 16th - September 18th as we sew the My Sew Quilty Life Rolling Petals pattern. This pattern is Jelly Roll (2.5" strip friendly) and a blast to sew. The pattern comes in several different sizes and looks amazing in any fabric. I've already made one block for my quilt to help advertise this QAL and I must say, it's taking a lot in me to not finish the rest. The block goes together so wonderfully. I just love it. Come sew with me! Continue reading for more details.

Schedule:

September now - 15th - Gather Supplies (see supplies list below)

September 16th - Cut fabrics/start blocks (YouTube tutorial released)

September 17th - Make/finish blocks

Gather Supplies:

In order to complete the blocks for the quilt, you will need to purchase the Rolling Petals pattern which is available in PDF and paper formats on my website. If you order the paper pattern please place your order before September 7th to ensure your pattern arrives on time. The PDF pattern is an instant download. The pattern comes in three quilt sizes. Wall Hanging 38" x 38", Crib 48" x 48", and Throw size quilt 58" x 58". If you would like to make your quilt larger, you can do so by adding more flower blocks. For the sake of time, I am currently planning to make the crib-size quilt, but if I have time I will make more blocks and make the throw size, or larger. Each flower block is 10" finished. There is no sashing, so this is a quick make.

Rolling Petals Pattern:

1 Jelly Roll or 2.5" strips. You can find them at your favorite local or online quilt shop. If you need some ideas CLICK HERE. If you make the wall hanging and crib-size quilt you will not need an entire Jelly Roll. If you make the throw size or larger version you will need an entire 42-strip Jelly Roll. You can always cut up fat quarters or yardage into 2.5" strips if you do not want to purchase a Jelly Roll. Just be sure to have your strips cut before the start date so it's easier for you.

Border, Corner Stones, and Background Fabric (see amounts needed for each size on the back cover of the pattern).

Inspiration:

I made my original Rolling Petals last year using Brenda Riddle's Sophie collection for Moda Fabrics. There are also several different beautiful quilts that have been made since the pattern has released. Use the hashtag #rollingpetalsquilt to see more. I will be using a 1930s reproduction Jelly Roll in order to make my quilt for the QAL. My inspiration is my Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. The flowers in Rolling Petals remind me of the flowers in my original flower garden quilt. I just love them. I colored up a crib-size layout for my inspiration. What do you think? The pattern comes with a throw-size coloring sheet for you to be able to color in your fabrics. The other sizes will be sent to you in an email after you have signed up for the QAL.

Video Tutorial:

I will be releasing a video tutorial on my YouTube channel on September 16th for the flower block. Stay tuned for that! I will post a link here when the tutorial is out. Go ahead and subscribe so you don't miss it or any videos from me. I will be adding more block tutorials on my channel for each of my patterns over the next few months.
